BFF Trail Work Day - September 10, 2022

May 19, 2022

Join us September 10, 2022 at Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park for a day of trail grooming in preparation for the 2022 Beaver Flat 50. You're probably saying to yourself, "but this is the weekend before the race!" Weird, I know. But trust us, it's going to be awesome to hang out with us TWO WEEKENDS IN A ROW!
And you might also be saying, "but what about Lost Souls, QCM and the zillion other great events taking place that weekend?!" I know, but guys, you're going to get to see Uncle Jeff two weekends in a row!
Honestly, this was a really tough one to schedule this year. The spring is full full. We couldn't land on a weekend that worked for everyone, so we're going to try something a little bit different. But what won't change is how super fun it's going to be!
We will be doing the following:
- cutting grass
- clearing debris
- pounding in some trail markers that have come loose
- building bridges
- moving dirt
- making jokes
- having fun
- eating bag lunches
We will have a buffet of snacks and food so that you can throw together a lunch before we head out on the trails. And we're defenitely going to feed you supper!
Your responsibility is to be awesome and wear appropriate clothing. We'll have gloves, safety gear, and equipment for people to use.
We'll congregate at the Stock Trailer Parking lot at the Equestrian Campground at 9:00am sharp, make a plan, gear up and head out. Let's do the trails good and make them all nice and beautiful for race weekend.
We are just waiting to hear back from the park regarding the possibility of groups heading out in the spring/summer to clean up the trails on their own. This may be a possibility. You're probably planning to come out for a few long runs anyway, so why not stay an extra day and get a few extra miles while cutting some grass! Once we have confirmation that this is okay, we will let you know.

2021 Registration Information

December 14, 2020

Registration periods:
● 1. Early Registration - January 7 at 7:00 am CST - January 14 at 12:00 pm CST – for runners who deferred from the 2020 race. All runners who wish to use their 2020 deferrals must register during this registration period. Runners will be unable to use their deferrals when this registration period closes. All unused deferrals will expire when this registration period closes.
● 2. General Registration - January 15 at 7:00 am CST - September 1 at 12:00pm CST - the number of spots available will depend on how many spots are filled during the Early Registration period. We anticipate starting with approximately 30 spots in each event so be prepared to nab one up if you want to be a part of this. If we can add more spots, we will, but we will have to see how 2021 goes.

Refund Breakdown:
● Full refunds available from January 15, 2021 - March 31, 2021.
● 50% refund available from April 1, 2021 - June 30, 2021. If COVID refund policy is activated, you will not receive an additional refund if you cancelled during this time period and already received a 50% refund
● Absolutely no refunds from July 1, 2021 - September 18, 2021 (unless the COVID refund policy is activated)
● You can transfer between distances (e.g. from 50km to 20km) from January 16, 2021 - September 1, 2021 AS LONG AS THE EVENT IS NOT FULL.
● You can transfer your bib to another runner, but you must do it through Race Roster. We don't allow a personal transfer of bib because we need racer contact information and we need people to complete the waiver for insurance purposes. You can transfer your bib from January 16, 2021 - September 1, 2021.
● Runners 16 and under that wish to participate in the Beaver Flat 50 or Dam Hard 20 must do so with a parent or guardian chaperone who must also be a registered participant of the same distance. Failure to abide by this policy will result in you not being permitted to participate in the event in the future.
Covid Refund Policy:
● Runners who deferred from the 2020 race and registered for the 2021 race, will have their registration deferred for one more year to 2022. A full deferral of fees and value of preordered items will be credited.
● Runners who grabbed one of the new 2021 spots will be offered the choice between an 85% refund, 100% deferral credit or donate your fees to the race.
● Same as last year:
● 45+ Master's division.
● Racers 15 years old and under qualify for a 25% junior racer discount.
● No deferrals. If you cannot make the 2021 race, your registration cannot be deferred to 2022.
New this year:
● Waitlist. We are going to go back to managing a wait list. If restrictions are lifted and we are allowed to add more spots, we will pull from the waitlist first before opening them up to the general public.
Train hard. Run well. Be merry.
Please note: Event organizers reserve the right to cancel the Beaver Flat 50 at any time for any reason, including inclement weather and pandemics. But we'll do everything in our power to run the event before cancellation is considered.

A word from our evil brothers

December 14, 2020

Holy shit friends and lovers...what a year we’ve endured. 🦠 Now guess what else you have to endure?...A riddle…Here it goes: what does the Beaver Flat 50 and the Covid-19 Pandemic have in common? They are both shitty and relentless…🥁 And guess what else? Registration for the 2021 Beaver Flat 50 is just around the corner. The 2021 year is going to be weird because we’ve had over 300 people defer from 2020 DNH BFF to the 2021 “we hope it happens” BFF. These deferrals, in combination with us deciding to initially shrink the 2021 race until we understand what Covid is going to do, means that we will have a very limited number of spots available for new registrants…like 30 spots in each distance. So sorry not sorry. New registrant registration opens January 15, 2021. Mark it in your calendars and get one of these super exclusive limited spots. For those that have deferred, we will open up registration the week prior, January 7-14, 2021. For those that deferred, yes, you must register again (and there may be a small processing fee – sorry not sorry). We will be posting and newslettering you quite a bit in the next few weeks with all sorts of updates and intel. It’ll be great because we know you missed us. Also, man alive, we are going to have some crazy cool merch available…like the 2020 Beavzilla BFF DNH Race Shirt….you gotta get one. But this 2020 DNH BFF shirt won’t overshadow the real actual coolness that is our groovy-acid-trip-mushroom-voyage-electric-lettuce-lets-party 2021 race design provided to us by the venerable @designedbycraig 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Let the games begin. #beaverflat50 #electriclettuce #sorrynotsorry #ultrarunner #greatestfootraceever #everysingletrail

2020 Cancellation Notice

May 04, 2020

Important notification Cancellation Notice

Hey folks, we have some good news and some bad news. The good news is two things. First, the park will be open for day use starting May 4, 2020. This means that you can get back on the trails. It is important that you maintain the social distancing guidelines set out by the government and Saskatchewan Parks. Those guidelines are here:

https://www.tourismsaskatchewan.com/COVID-19-Information

Now for the bad news, the 2020 Beaver Flat 50 is cancelled. The Beaver Flat 50 is a big big thing. We reckon it brings approximately 1,000 people to the Park on race day. Based on our communication with Park staff and others involved in the race, we cannot assume that we will be permitted to host an event of this magnitude come September. We have decided to make the call now before we have to make any substantial race purchases. Friends, we are sorry, but the 2020 Beaver Flat 50 is officially cancelled.

But a bit more good news – we delayed making large purchases and therefore our expenses have been minimal for the 2020 event. We are in the process of working with Race Roster to establish how your refund or deferral options will look and early ,next week you will receive more communication in this regard. It is likely that we will have:

A 90% refund option (withholding 10% to account for processing fees)

A registration deferral option to 2021

An “if we don’t hear from you by the refund/deferral deadline consider it a donation to the 2021 Beaver Flat 50” option

All runners will be sent an email with instructions on how to make their selection. There will be a deadline to do so and anyone not making their choice before the deadline will donate their race fees to the 2021 event.

We will also be announcing the date for the 2021 event as well as when you can expect registration to open.

Hosting the BFF is one of our favorite things to do, and we’re sad we won’t get to see you all in September. But we promise to blow the roof off of 2021. Happy trails (as of May 4) people!!!

A message from our photographer...

September 16, 2019

Thank you for making my photos look great with all your bright smiles! Sorry for the delay in getting these to you. I have over 1000 pix for your viewing pleasure. If you can't find yourself in one album, try the others. If I completely missed you, my apologies. But there should be at least one photo of everyone, some will have more, as I shot at more than one location for the 20 & 50k.
Feel free to tag yourself or friends and share on social media. But if you do share, that probably means you like the picture. And if you like it, you should buy it! For only $10 each, you get a high-resolution picture, good enough for enlargement and framing. The version I post on FB is highly reduced, only 15% of the original file in quality, for fast posting and viewing. I know you will appreciate the quality of these amazing images. I have priced it so low that no one should feel the need to steal the image without paying.
If you do want to purchase any picture, simply email me AlanLamPhotography [at] yahoo [dot] com and let me know which photo you like. Or leave a comment on the photo on FB and I will contact you. I take e-transfer.
Make sure you open on the landing page of each album and browse there first, if you don't want to be clicking through a 1000 pix.
Here are the links to the albums...

Trail Work Weekend

November 12, 2018

Superb weekend cutting and marking trail. Thanks to the 25 volunteers that braved the heat, ticks, and at times, our poor sense of direction. We knocked off approximately 35km of trail. Also, the park has put up permanent trail markers and we will have a map ready shortly. Hikers, runners, hunters, horse riders, get out there and use those trails!
